When you hear the word tattoo what do you think of; a biker, a rockstar, maybe a rebellious teen? What if I told you a tattoo is so much more than lines on your skin.

These five locally owned tattoo shops each share their unique take on creating an experience unlike any other for their clients. Breaking status quos and lifting the bias towards the world that is tattooing.

  1. Liquid Color Tattoo Studio

A modern tattoo studio that breaks the traditional boundaries of ink. This studio is where artistry meets spiritual exploration in order to help blend the worlds of body art and energy healing to bring a transformative experience to their clients.

Lexy Cardonne the owner and principal artist of Liquid Color Tattoo Studio believes tattooing is an art form as old as our humanity and can give an experience like none other as it can be cathartic, intense, joyful, and everything in between. As an artist she sees herself as a guide and to help assist with healing and stress to delver a beautiful and meaningful experience.

2. Terrarium Tattoo

“Art First” is their motto. Meredith and H.H. Little Sky opened Terrarium Tattoo in 2015, to share their love of art through a welcoming and safe environment. They see tattooing as a scared act and want to honor the craft by creating meaningful artwork to their clients in a space where art can have a sense of freedom.

By providing a space filled with plant life and a private atmosphere, their hope is too make people feel comfortable and safe. Like a terrarium they want you to feel like you're in your own little world, by being owned and operated by artist they let creativity run free.

3. Heart and Skin

Tattoos stay for a lifetime so why not put your heart into it? At Heart and Skin that's exactly what what the artists will do when creating artwork worth a lifetime.

By exceeding the status quo the artist will sit and listen to your vision in a welcoming environment and talk you through a journey you create.

get ready for an experience like non other where you not only are the canvas but part are truly one with the art for a deeper connection with your artwork. Be ready to be bold and beautiful.

4. Solana Tattoo Company

Where art means family. Visiting Solana Tattoo Company is like visiting family, warm and welcoming. Unlike other tattoo shops in Fort Collins Solana is a family run business by Colorado Natives (including a Colorado State University Alum.)

Located right across the street from Colorado State University, they serve “the next generation” focusing on a welcoming environment for students ready to express their feelings through the art of tattooing.

By regularly offering specials help young adults feel more at ease to come in and create something special and be proud of. Once a ram always a ramily.

5. Dark Light Studios

Their dream is to create the unimaginable not only with their art but with people who want to find something more than just lines on a canvas. Zach, owner of Dark Light Studios located in Downtown Fort Collins offers high-end tattoos with high-end care.

“Like in Art, life is all about contrast. the dark moments that make the light seem brighter. this is that journey. we have all walked it, whether we know it or not. that struggle to strive for your light beyond all the dark. I want to help you find your light in the dark.” A quote from Zach’s website.

Tattoos are art. They are meaningful, powerful and a sense of home for many. They speak a story with no words and many studios not just in the city of Fort Collins are expressing ways to help heal and create safe places for many who don’t know where else to go. Many say don’t judge a book by their cover but same goes for your local tattoo shop.
